The road curved alongside open fields, land full of crops and barns warn from years of use. As I approached Wisteria Ridge for Nick + Krystina’s wedding day, the sun peeked among the clouds and the Blue Ridge Mountains wore a special hue of blue that day.
All wedding days should be made of cool breezes with a warm sun peeking among clouds. The type of breezes that catch the veil and the groom holds with his hand. Yes and yes.
A few favorite moments captured from Nick + Krystina’s Wedding Day:
- While getting ready, a big pink bag with a gold heart was delivered to Krystina from Nick. Inside was a large Bojangle’s Sweet Tea, a Virginia Tech glass (both bride and groom went to school there) and two cards. When she read the cards, she balanced between large laughs and happy tears. A good combination. Shortly after opening and pouring a glass of tea, Krystina’s sister accidentally knocked it over and spilled it on her bridesmaid’s dress…and the floor…and the dresser, luckily the bride’s dress wasn’t harmed! 🙂
- When photographing weddings, I always linger near the bride right before the ceremony. I follow her down the aisle so I can get a clear view of the groom’s face. Nick’s was FULL of a huge smile. As his best man joked in his toast: “I saw Nick smile for the first in ten years today.” It was a truly special moment to see that big grin when Nick first saw his bride.
- We stole Nick + Krystina from the reception for a bit to grab a few sunset portraits. Just at the right moment, when the sun had descended behind the mountain, the sky filled with those golden + pink colors, a horse moseyed into the background. I just can’t make this stuff up.

Such fun wedding flavors for a farm wedding – flower seeds!
These flip-flops were a huge hit at the reception:
Krystina has written letters to Nick all of their relationship, for years, so it was only fitting she gave Nick a book to fill with letters:
Krystina’s something blue was a handkerchief from her grandmother. When her grandmother saw she was carrying it, her face lit up:
There’s that huge grin on Nick’s face!
Blue Ridge Catering always does the best cocktail hour food: Mac and Cheese balls, mini ham biscuits and chicken + waffles. WHAT.
I had quite some convincing to do to get these next two shots (I took way more than two). It required a small drive up a curvy road in a golf cart by the owners of Wisteria Ridge. So glad it worked out 🙂
LOVE this shot by Jason:
Blue Ridge Catering for the dinner win!
If you look really close, behind the tree on the right, there’s a llama peeking from the field. She hanged around the whole time I photographed Krystina’s bridal portraits:
The corn hole games were a huge hit. Guests played throughout the cocktail hour and reception:
Sometimes the bouquet toss gets serious. One guest was not messing around! Oops:
