Small Girl in a Big City

04.23.2014

My new favorite thing is taking a weekend to explore somewhere new. Luckily, there’s a ton of pretty awesome places just within a couple of hours of drive from Roanoke.

I recently took off to DC to shoot Elias + Katie’s engagement session. Small girl in a big city was for sure the case. Never rode the Metro before…at least not by myself. Being squeezed in a small train car with strangers was an interesting experience, my personal space was definitely invaded.

Just walking around the city and finding my own way was pretty awesome in itself. I mean, I only got lost twice : )  Thank goodness for GPS that can track walking too.

I ended up going to the Smithsonian’s American History Museum. It was packed because it was prime dates for the Cherry Blossom Trees. One of the things I was most excited about, dorky as it might sound, was a very detailed display of a doll house. I kind of love miniatures and almost missed it as it was tucked to the side near the bathrooms but so glad I saw it.

In just a short walking distance from my hotel, I found a quick lunch spot that pretty amaze. Love the whole concept of Which Wich and the food made my tummy happy.

I kinda got excited seeing so many police officers riding horses and how serious the cross guards took their job (I mean yelling at people for not following instructions). The amount of things to see and do not only DC but right outside of DC is pretty incredible. I’m going back…just not during Cherry Blossom season ; )
